Charles Frazier grew up in the mountains of North Carolina. He now lives in Raleigh with his wife and daughter, where they raise horses. Cold Mountain is his first novel.

It is possibly the most beautiful story that I've ever read. A soldier broken in spirit decides to walk home to the woman he loved. I know you may know the movie, but “Abusolutely the movie cannot begin to capture the truly spectacular parts of this story because they are not the surface level narratives that make it onto the big screen. "
