A mixture of postmodern allegories with dirty realism. Jay Robin sucks the marrow out of Murakami, rendering the collection a shining quality found in Raymond Carver's stories. Good job.
评分最感人的应该是同名短篇里大象和饲养员那种相依为命的感情。不过村上笔下的男女总有一种"我不懂爱我不幸福可是我也不难过我就这么活到老也没问题”的感觉，读起来真是难受

评分Middle-class (usually middle-aged) people reflect upon misplaced desire. The several recurring names and symbols are interesting (e.x. Noboru Watanabe, elephant, people you met once but never cross paths again, etc.), which provide subtle links between the short stories.
