With this book, Barthes offers a broad-ranging meditation on the culture, society, art, literature, language, and iconography--in short, both the sign-oriented realities and fantasies--of Japan itself. Roland Barthes was born in 1915 and studied French literature and the classics at the University of Paris. After teaching French at universities in Romania and Egypt, he joined the Centre National de Recherche Scientifique, where he devoted himself to research in sociology and lexicology. He was a professor at the College de France until his death in 1980. With this book, Barthes offers a broad-ranging meditation on the culture, society, art, literature, language, and iconography--in short, both the sign-oriented realities and fantasies--of Japan itself. 虛化為符號客體的日本，空無難以捉摸的日本。巴特桑筆下（雖隔一層英譯）極具法語錶述之抽象特質，好在有具體符號貫連，不緻所指無物。跨文化議論可與三島並陳而較，想必有趣。????14-120215

如果不去闡釋，如何比較文化？沉浸其中，刹那間抓住印象、痕跡，具體而圓滿的掌握。巴特這本書，實際上飛齣西方符號體係，理解日本（東方）符號【符號的空無/空悟】。偶有過度之外，恰切，靈光滿篇。我閱讀中獲得很多啓發：第七章瞭解瞭瓜蒂埃“間隙”的源頭；12章是對Kleist和西方戲劇傳統的反對；15章啓示瞭理解史蒂文斯和王敖的詩的一個絕妙角度；16章講因陀羅是對硃琺和劉任鈞的創作的解牛妙徑；22章對日本全學聯無政府主義的評述，是理解鬆本哉和大笨蛋主義的聚光燈。真是奇妙好書。十星，其中一半給Richard Howard的翻譯，太享受他的翻譯瞭，他用詞的精心、微妙，給語言無比享受。是我今生最愛的翻譯傢。

沒看懂,即使晚上為瞭寫paper又大緻過瞭一遍還是沒懂;哲學意味不濃,倒像是意識流;當初教授說這是一個法國人意淫中的日本,但讀下來覺得很多明明就是現實中的日本文化,甚至很多都明明是中國的文化卻被標榜瞭日本的標誌;一本SAT甚至是GRE詞匯書,姐查單詞加起來三個小時...

我的文字功夫很差表达能力欠佳刚开始也觉得拿错了书，只是感觉都在讲日本的文化。但是也不难理解作为西方人，只有从另外一种文化中反观，才能剖析出这样精致的形式美感，因为文化只有冲撞时，才会更好的剖析具体行为的含义，以至于发现自我。虽然这是一次寻找符号之旅，但...
