李翊雲第一次寫小說，是用英語。她是中國人，1973年生，北大生物係畢業後到美國留學。她說：英語給她錶達的自由。在書蟲看到她，非常欣賞。那種淳樸誠實的氣質，和她自己喜歡的小說的“villageness"的風格，倒是相承。會場上，她不知說瞭幾次抱歉不瞭解，不知道，所以迴答不瞭你的問題。啊，我有多久沒有見過這樣的“自然”人。中國作傢裏她喜歡瀋從文和老捨。外國則是她一再提及的愛爾蘭作傢William Trevor，後者小說的人物身上便有她為之著迷的villageness。

我一直佩服用英文寫作的中國作者。她的故事充滿瞭有故事的人，小說讀完瞭，會給人留有想象空間。故事無關宏大曆史的背景，但是你在她故事中讀得齣時代感。
