著者簡介

雷濛德∙卡佛（1938-1988），美國當代著名短篇小說傢、詩人。被稱為“美國二十世紀下半葉最重要的小說傢”和小說界“簡約主義”的大師，是“繼海明威之後美國最具影響力的短篇小說作傢”。《倫敦時報》在他去世後稱他為“美國的契訶夫”。他被認為是美國八十年代後短篇小說復興的最大功臣。

卡佛19歲高中畢業後，即娶妻養傢，艱難謀生。人生的前半部分，在失業、酗酒、破産中度過，妻離子散，隻能在貧睏潦倒中堅持寫作。

70年代後卡佛的寫作成就漸受矚目，1979年獲古根海姆奬金，並兩次獲國傢藝術基金奬金；1983年獲米爾德瑞──哈洛斯特勞斯終生成就奬；1985年獲《詩歌》雜誌萊文森奬；1988年被提名為美國藝術文學院院士，並獲哈特弗大學榮譽文學博士學位，同時獲布蘭德斯小說奬。
