评分布魯姆的口吻好像一位粗暴但令人敬慕的拉比。雖然他錶現齣他對一切作品有最終解釋權的樣子，但你很難反抗他。強大，坦誠，優美又富有感染力，是一個不成熟（與年齡無關）的讀者所渴望的那種閱讀導師。但有時候他的解讀的通透程度又令人生疑：現代的短篇故事不是契訶夫式的就是博爾赫斯式的；莎士比亞投下的身影是如此巨大，他的作品成為瞭文本的文本，解讀萬物之匙。
