具體描述
故事發生在美車南方一個小鎮上，一位黑人工人的１０歲女兒被兩個白人青年流氓毆打輪奸，拋棄荒野。事發後，那兩個白人被捕受審，但在法院的樓梯上被女孩的父親開槍打死，於是這位父親也被逮捕受審。圍繞這位父親是否犯有謀殺罪，當地的白人和黑人在法庭內外展開瞭一場激烈的爭論和鬥爭。美國的種族矛盾和看似完善的法律製度中所存在的種種弊端及漏洞，也在這起案件的審理過程中暴露。
