Frodo and the Companions of the Ring have been beset by danger during their quest to prevent the Ruling Ring from falling into the hands of the Dark Lord by destroying it in the Cracks of Doom. They have lost the wizard, Gandalf, in the battle with an evil spirit in the Mines of Moria; and at the Falls of Rauros, Boromir, seduced by the power of the Ring, tried to seize it by force. While Frodo and Sam made their escape the rest of the company were attacked by Orcs. Now they continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin -- alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. Now, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its first publication, the text has been fully restored with almost 400 corrections -- with the full co-operation of Christopher Tolkien -- making it the definitive version, and as close as possible to the version that J.R.R. Tolkien intended. Also included is the original red and black map of Middle-earth as a fold-out sheet. 第二部的翻译相比第一部似乎要略逊一筹。不过，随着情节的展开，事故的复杂程度掩盖了翻译的缺陷，依然呈现出宏大的结构和规模
評分我知道你在些什么，但我有时候感觉不到，庆幸的是只是有时候。文化差异？估计是悟性差！也许是因为我的胆小与懦弱 每当注释这几本《魔戒》的时候，就忍不住想能否有一天暂别现实的生活，去到那令人热血翻腾的中土世界！

评分這本開始花開N朵，各錶N枝。總體是明暗交替。Aragon等捲入人族對抗魔道的正麵戰場，Rohan的昏君佞臣、Isengard的Ent大戰像戰國般精彩。Frodo（僞）馴服Gollum作嚮導不能更震驚。相比西邊的酣戰，Sam/Frodo與孤獨如影隨形。結尾兩章的華彩：（幾乎是）打破第四麵牆的對於神話、探險和自我選擇的討論，以及Sam的勇猛和抉擇。真正主角其實不是錶麵上的那幾個！
