作者简介
W. Somerset Maugham was born in Paris in 1874. He began to study medicine in London but quit to focus exclusively on writing. In 1926 he bought a house in Cap Ferrat, France, which was to become a meeting place for a number of writers, artists and politicians. He died in 1965.

A man of virtue can be a slave of his own integrity; A unscrupulous scamp has his own merits ( perhaps only in the eyes of silly woman). -- I am not very sure if dear Signor Maugham really meant it or he was actually teasing the less superior creatures again (as what he usually did).
