John le Carré was born in 1931. His third novel, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, secured him a world wide reputation, which was consolidated by the acclaim for his trilogy Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Honourable Schoolboy and Smiley’s People. 忍受着我不太喜欢的翻译风格和译林恶俗之极的封面，终于在南京回上海的火车上看完这本在手边放了好几年的书。这本书在国外，特别是英国应该非常出名，BBC 70年代拍的同名电视剧也同等出色，可是，这本小说在国内好像却没有太多人关注，即使去年奥斯卡上不朽的园丁颇出风头，...

本书并不好读，比我想象的英式轻松畅快也有差距，尤其是在整个行动开始后描述吉勒姆和史迈利分头行动的部分，真是各种人名，各种事件砸在一起，看得人一头雾水，抓不到脉络，直到故事进行，几个重要人物的情况才逐渐被交待出来：圆场几位“巨头”，神秘的卡拉，关键人物吉姆·...
