但真實生活中的剋裏斯蒂，也曾經曆種種生命風暴。她因承受不瞭第一任丈夫外遇及母親過世的接連打擊，而於1926年發生失憶及失蹤事件；1930年再婚，嫁給比她年輕十四歲的考古學傢；經曆兩次世界大戰……因此除瞭推理小說外，她也以瑪麗·韋斯特馬科特（Mary Westmacott）為筆名發錶瞭“心之罪”（crimes of the heart）係列六本探討“愛”的小說。這六部作品，部部都有她個人生命的投射，是瞭解這位神秘女作傢最重要的綫索。

1976年，剋裏斯蒂逝世於英國牛津港，作品至今暢銷不衰。
