具體描述

First published in 1979, The White Album records indelibly the upheavals and aftermaths of the 1960s. Examining key events, figures, and trends of the era--including Charles Manson, the Black Panthers, and the shopping mall--through the lens of her own spiritual confusion, Joan Didion helped to define mass culture as we now understand it. Written with a commanding sureness of tone and linguistic precision, The White Album is a central text of American reportage and a classic of American autobiography.

Joan Didion is an extraordinary feminism writer. She tellingly captures the spiritual landscape of the Americans in the 1960s. Compared to her counterpart who felt displaced and downtrodden, Didion was always so calm and objective that she just recoded what...

When we talk about entitlement we are not talking about privilege per se. Instead we are talking about a heightened consciousness, self awareness, unabashedly declared, unconsciously declaimed. Didion’s titular essay reeks of not only entitlement but also anti-substance. The rest of the essays could be ghastly bad too.

寫在伯剋利度過的大學時光沉靜的一代,好萊塢,鬍佛水庫,加州高速公路網、Malibu的種花人救生員。Didion是加州的insider

1979 "I was supposed to have a script, and had mislaid it. I was supposed to hear cues, and no longer did. I was meant to know the plot, but all I knew was what I saw: flash pictures in variable sequence, images with no meaning beyond their temporary arrangement, not a movie but a cutting-room experience." 早年更有趣一點(偏頭痛那篇雖極on point也是提醒無論怎麼寫都很entitled

Didion mostly seem to be a vulnerable and extremely observant outsider of the system, though occasionally I find her to be quite privileged and condescending... The 1960s California, esp. the Bay Area in her essays is all so romantic yet relatable even today.
