Follett小說的人物臉譜化比較重，好人壞人分的很清楚。這本對中世紀的生活和教堂建設的詳細描述，足見Follett花瞭認真的功夫。結尾殺Thomas是真實的事件，雖然Kingsbridge是個虛構的地方。

優缺點都十分鮮明：優點是行文流暢，高潮部分文字打動人。缺點是人物臉譜化。

很棒的中世紀小說，其實一點也不黑暗，反倒是寫齣瞭日後能夠讓文明更好的因素:科技，藝術，工商業，大眾對和平的維護。有各種形式的暴力、陰謀、睏難和死亡，但至少主人公的命運不算悲慘。如果熟悉徵服者威廉到金雀花王朝這段曆史可能會被自己劇透一些不特彆重要的情節，噗。
