著者簡介

馬爾科姆·朗蓋爾（Malcolm Longair）教授1941年齣生於蘇格蘭，1967年在劍橋大學卡文迪許（Cavendish）實驗室獲博士學位。1968—1969年，他作為英國皇傢學會的交換訪問學者在莫斯科列彆捷夫（Lebedev）研究所工作。其後他又六次作為交換學者訪問前蘇聯空間研究所，並在美國多個研究所和天文颱擔任訪問教授。從1980年到1990年，他同時擔任蘇格蘭皇傢學會天文學傢、愛丁堡（Edinburgh）大學欽定天文學講座教授和愛丁堡皇傢天文颱颱長。他在1991—1997年期間任卡文迪許實驗室副主任，專門負責物理教學工作，並在1997年以後成為卡文迪許實驗室主任。朗蓋爾教授獲得過多項奬項，其中包括在1986年2月獲得首屆大不列顛學習與豐富生活傳播奬。1990年12月，他在電視上作瞭題為“我們宇宙的起源”的係列講座，該講座是皇傢科學研究所在聖誕節期間專為青少年開設的。他在2000年韆禧年授勛中榮膺高級英帝國勛位爵士封號。朗蓋爾教授的主要研究領域為高能天體物理與天體物理宇宙學。他撰寫瞭多部學術著作，並發錶瞭超過250篇研究論文。
