In the squalor of a textile town, successful businessman and arch-pragmatist Thomas Gradgrind, proclaiming that he is a self-made man, teaches his children to suppress their imagination and embrace hard facts. He arranges the marriage of his daughter Louisa to Josiah Bounderby, an unattractive, boastful manufacturer who is thirty years older than she. 看的第一本狄更斯的英文原作，不得不说读的很辛苦，因为个人词汇量低，一边不停的翻字典一边琢磨每个句子的逻辑，半天也看不了几章 但光是那些句子就让人觉得妙不可言了，大概这是英语非母语的人看英文有限才会有的感慨吧…… 不过有些感觉是看原文才有的，即使自己来翻不一定...

評分开头那一段说马的，真心震撼。现在还记得清清楚楚。那一大段描述，将孩子们被洗脑成维基百科的那种范儿，太厉害了。让人痛心那些孩子，从小再没有想象力，只剩下一个一个明确定义的名词，和所谓的fact。 读到后面会觉得无趣。原作的英文也确实不算简单，毕竟是19世纪的作品，很...
