剛開始讀這本書是因為對近現代的東南亞曆史感興趣並且大一上學期學瞭東南亞的近代殖民史。無意中觸碰到瞭柬埔寨1975年到1979年間的這段曆史。這段被稱為紅色高棉大屠殺的曆史太殘酷，殘酷到不應該被任何人忘記。
