At the core of the Diary lies the conflict between the narrator's philosophical and intellectual search for aesthetic pleasure and the depth of suffering this ultimately inflicts. Inspired by events in Kierkegaard's own life that are still shrouded in mystery, this story is a vivid exploration of the complex psychology of cruelty and love."Diary of a Seducer" is an autonomous part of the philosophical work "Either/Or", which was published in 1843 and brought the author immediate fame.
