So much has been written about Vietnam it's hard to imagine any book could add meaningfully to the pile: Christian Appy somehow manages to do that. And it's probably because, as much as possible, he lets others speak. Vets (from both sides of the conflict), anti-war activists, reporters, politicians, film-makers; all find their voice. Some of their stories are moving; all are enlightening. Why hear a historians perspective, when you can read an eyewitnesses'?
