From Library Journal The popular Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible (Warner， 1989. rev. ed.) has a sequel: the Herb Bible . This handy reference covers more than 100 common and useful herbs， giving preparation and dosage， benefits， and cautions. Mindell， a pharmacist and professor of nutrition， includes some background on the use of medicinal herbs in several cultures， plus chapters on preventative medicine， cosmetic use， and aromatherapy. This is a good， well-rounded introductory work on treating simple ailments. Mindell also includes plenty of cautions， explains what herbal remedies can reasonably be expected to accomplish， and recommends consulting a physician for serious conditions. If you already have a good general work such as Michael Castleman's The Healing Herbs (Rodale Pr.， 1991)， you might not need Mindell's book.
