Accounting is a stimulating and rewarding field of
study. To be successful, professionals in all areas of
business, such as finance, production, marketing, per-
sonnel, and general management, must have an under-
standing of accounting. In addition, men and women
whose careers are in nonbusiness areas often use their
knowledge of accounting to perform their duties more
effectively.
As you begin your study of accounting, you may
find the following suggestions helpful:
Read the learning objectives before you begin
studying a chapter.
~ Scan the chapter to get a feel for the material before
you begin a detailed reading of the chapter.
~ Briefly review the Glossary of Key Terms in the
Chapter Review section to familiarize yourself with
the terminology that will be emphasized in the
chapter.
~ As you read each chapter, you may wish to under-
~bne or highlight points that are important. Also,
you should pay special attention to key terms that
are identified in color when they are first defined in
the chapter.
~ After reading the chapter, carefully study the Chap-
ter Review, giving special attention to the following
items:
