Consistent with CRC policy, this 26th Edition of the CRC Standard Math-

ematical Tables follows the tradition of its predecessors. The reorganization

of the 25th Edition, with its new multisectional format, is found in this 26th

Edition. The customary material contained in earlier editions, plus the new

expository and tabular material included in the 25th Edition, is repeated.

However, several desirable additions--expanded sections on Algebra of Sets,

Vector Analysis, Finite Difference Interpolation Formulae, Normal Probabil-

ity Function; new material on Complex Variables, Coefficients for Orthogonal

Polynomials--are to be noted throughout this new edition. This additional

material should prove to be berieficial to applied mathematicians and statisti-

cians.

It is hoped that this 26th Edition will receive the same popular acceptance

enjoyed by its predecessors. It is suggested that if the user desires more exten-

sive and/or additional reference material than provided in this edition, he or

she refer to other CRC publications such as the CRC Handbook of Tables

for Mathematics (renamed the CRC Handbook of Mathematical Sciences),

the CRC Handbook of Tables for Probability and Statistics, etc.

production of this edition possible.

To the many users of current editions who sent in suggestions for alterna-
