Dinah hit her palm to her forehead. Woody, you
fool Remember him? The man you re driving thou-
sands of miles to find? She was after the black-
tongued devil himself. But every time she tried
bringing Woody s devilish face to mind lately, it
turned out to be Seth smiling at her with devil s-food
eyes and turning her insides to chocolate pudding.
It was only proximity. And similarity. She reminded
herself constantly that Seth and Woody were related
in more ways than one, and none of them good.
She didn t really want Seth. Shoe couldn t. She was
an intelligent woman who knew better than that.
Like she knew better than to put salt on her corn on
the cob, butter on her popcorn, or mayonnaise on
her ham sandwich. But she reached for those things
every time, and if Seth were in front of her now she d
be pulling him to the dance floor, rubbing her face
in his all-natural chest and wrapping herself around
him like a twist-tie.
