作者简介
夏济安（1916–1965），曾任教北京大学外语系、香港新亚书院和台湾大学外文系。1959年赴美，在西雅图华盛顿大学、加州柏克莱大学作研究，主要工作是研究中国共产党党史。

夏济安研究左翼文学的专著。如果就提携后学来说，少有人有夏师的成就，李欧梵、刘绍铭、余光中、白先勇、叶维廉、董桥都是他的学生。在这方面，梁实秋都不能与之相提并论。梁没有英文大部头著作传世，一些英文短章看过后，明显英文应用能力显然不如中文。

评分重讀，多有啓發。寫瞿秋白、寫魯迅的黑暗面的兩篇特別好，敏銳一針見血，又深懷同情。「了解之同情」，這是範例。
