读得penguin classics的版本（越来越觉得企鹅是个了不起的出版社）一个可以说是幸运的黑人女奴的血泪史，行文里喷薄欲出的无法压制的对自由的渴望，和作为一个女性和母亲的感情太强大，看到最后真的是热泪盈眶。不知道短评里说“挺无趣的”人是怎么想的。这本书是在女性白人编辑的担保下出版，用的是假名，但出版后所有人都觉得是假的，觉得黑人写不出这样的书。直到上个世纪80年代一个女性学者把有关这本书的一切真实史料挖了个底朝天，世人才知道原来这本书真的是由黑人所写，讲述的完全是真实的故事。作者，编辑，还有这位学者都是伟大的女性。

其实我读的是Penguin Classics版本的。以前一直觉得没有受过良好教育的人不可能写出经典作品，但是这本书真的让我觉得it never finishes what it intends to say. 从极度苦难中存活下来，作者对痛苦、人性和其他forms of oppression的理解深刻得令人战栗。黑奴写的东西不当史料读，读不出它的伟大之处。
