著者简介

Nancy Scheper-Hughes is Professor in the Department of Anthropology and Director of the doctoral program in Medical Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley. Her many publications include two books published by California, the award-winning Death without Weeping (1992) and Small Wars (1998).

给分一般因为感觉有种用西方standard去judge当地文化的意思。不过prologue和epilogue里面对于自我的解析和村民的反应变化还是很有意思的。这本毕竟应该只是thesis，只能说如果成熟一点的时期写应该更好。我更期待了解当地人如何construct mental illness，所以关于可爱的傻子和可怕的神经病人的对比我更喜欢。

诗歌，统计学，精神分析，自画像，贫穷和天主教徒…当年老师只把prologue拿来讲，后面的描述还是很艰深。

好像这本书所引发的伦理思考比研究发现更重要，NSH在前言里不无讽刺地说，她因为写了本普通人能读得懂的民族志而拿了Mead奖，但正因为普通人能读得懂，所以她的研究对象读到了这本书，而对书里内容大为光火，他们在NSH做田调时那么帮她，结果NSH却把他们更丑陋、更黑暗的那面曝光给了全世界，所以写民族志究竟该为了谁好？
