The novel depicts more the awe of Jupiter, rather than the rendezvous of human and outer space intelligence in movie. If one had never learn much about Jupiter, the star child part may be boring, yet the touching part of Hal is equally shared. The daily life of astronauts is also vivid and convincing, thanks to the author's fanatic in cosmos.

评分後半部分值得十顆星。冰封的Europa，如魔多一樣炙熱可怖的Io，最後被引爆坍縮成第二顆太陽的Jupiter，瑰麗壯美得太讓人難忘。這一部裏宇宙高等智慧生命（神）沒有展現太多的惡意，隨意地播種，實驗，培育新的文明。全篇隻有一個小地方讓人鼻酸，是博士發迴地球的那句：We’ve done our best - and we’re coming home.
评分幾次跌宕起伏的劇情讓人想入非非，中間一部分有一點拖遝，但是值得五星推薦，真正的硬科幻。對於太空飛行器環星軌道變速，以及太空旅行的描述絕對達到天體物理學傢的水平，讓人驚嘆不已。
