YAEL BENTOR is a senior lecturer of Indian and Tibetan Studies at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel, specializing in the areas of Tantra, ritual, and meditation. She is the author of The Essence of the Ocean of Attainments: Explanation of the Creation Stage of the Guhyasamaja, King of All Tantras, translated with Penpa Dorjee (AIBS, 2013). She lives in Jerusalem, Israel.

A Classical Tibetan Reader answers a long-standing need for well chosen readings to accompany courses in classical Tibetan language. Professor Bentor has built her Tibetan reader out of time-tested selections from texts that she has worked with while teaching classical Tibetan over the past twenty years. She has assembled here a selection of Tibetan narratives, organized to introduce students of the language to complex material gradually, and to arm them with ample reference materials in the form of glossaries customized to individual readings.
Instructors will find this reader an invaluable tool for preparing lesson plans and providing high-quality reading material to their students. 评分作者在序言中提到兩種學習文獻語言的方法：第一種是先完整的學習所有的語法，並搭配零散的例句進行有針對的語法解釋，待完全熟練後再去閱讀文獻材料。第二種是在大概學習語法後直接閱讀文獻，僅僅依靠詞匯的解釋，通過“人對語言本能的一種理解掌握能力”來熟悉運用所有語法。盡管這兩種方法顯然不應過度偏廢，但作者卻傾嚮於第二種方法。她結閤自己多年的教學經驗編寫瞭此書。本書選取瞭12篇古藏文原始篇目，涉及藏文化特彆是藏傳佛教史的各個方麵。書中除最簡單的語法介紹外沒有任何其它分析，每篇文章都是白文，僅僅附上瞭文中生詞的詞匯錶。但重要的是，每個詞的釋義在當篇文章語境中都是極其精確的，這就大大破除瞭藏文一詞多義的難點，利於循序漸進地積纍。的確，再讀完5-10篇後，對語法的感覺會不自覺地提升。十分利於初學者學習。
