Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within weeks, all had died of cancer. The group is made up of four women: an anthropologist; a surveyor; a psychologist, the de facto leader; and our narrator, a biologist. Their mission is to map the terrain, record all observations of their surroundings and of one anotioner, and, above all, avoid being contaminated by Area X itself.

They arrive expecting the unexpected, and Area X delivers—they discover a massive topographic anomaly and life forms that surpass understanding—but it’s the surprises that came across the border with them and the secrets the expedition members are keeping from one another that change everything.

讀得很慢，100多頁花瞭3天纔讀完，因為掙紮著想把每句話每個詞都看得一清二楚，而且一些細節詞匯好晦澀（我語言能力還急需提高）。非常creepy極其weird，和電影一般像是一個bad acid trip，吃瞭壞掉的蘑菇，做瞭惡心而不明所以的夢魘，卻與電影幾乎是全然不同的故事瞭。全書都是大坑，到底Event是什麼，superiors到底知道一些什麼，誰把大傢的日記放到燈塔裏的，塔是誰建的。真的都是外星生物入侵嗎？

挺好看的偶爾浪漫一下都能把我驚訝到。consolation of authority這句蠻酷的，可以接著看一下本瞭。"have you been waiting for me all this time? Have I arrived yet” this is so sad.

這是遺落的南境係列的第一部，以日記的形式記錄瞭主角參與勘探隊探查X區域的經曆。主角是一名性格內斂的女性生物學傢，全書行文風格剋製隱忍，在記錄考察過程中遇見的諸多異象的同時，也多有反思，迴憶和猜測，因此這份日記給人以一種心靈上的恐懼感，就好像一個人獨自在黑暗中鬍思亂想，越想越怕。當然，恐懼隻是一個層麵，字裏行間，也可以看齣作者在關於對立，轉化，背叛，妥協等多種概念不同層次上的探討，甚至到最後，還能發現有一絲動人的情感在裏麵。雖然謎底沒有解開，但作為三部麯的首部，已屬精彩佳作。

壓迫感非常強的一本書。和Crawler正麵交鋒的那一段真的簡直⋯⋯Make your heart tremble.
