Something is out there, something terrifying that must not be seen. One glimpse of it, and a person is driven to deadly violence. No one knows what it is or where it came from.
Five years after it began, a handful of scattered survivors remains, including Malorie and her two young children. Living in an abandoned house near the river, she has dreamed of fleeing to a place where they might be safe. Now that the boy and girl are four, it's time to go, but the journey ahead will be terrifying: twenty miles downriver in a rowboat--blindfolded--with nothing to rely on but her wits and the children’s trained ears. 评分当世界变成只要你看见某种不明creature你就会丧失理智杀人、自杀，你会怎么样呢？是将门窗封上还是不顾一切疯狂致死？连动物都无法幸免，在河上那些鸟全部疯了那段挺吓人的。虽然从开头就预见了Tom他们的悲剧，但没想到就因为Gary这颗老鼠屎让大家差点全军覆没。Malorie最后还是带着两孩子到了更安全的地方。但我始终觉得还是悲剧。The whole new world is just a bird box.他们只是换了一个更大的笼子而已。
评分悬念设置能让人坚持读完，但是作为惊悚小说来看的话，气氛和细节不算写很好。
评分私以为，不能用眼睛看事物这个设置很巧妙。就好比现在让我们闭着眼睛行走，走不了几步就会被那种虚空感，不安全感吞噬。但同时...这也是本书最致命的bug...除开那些后来人为把自己弄瞎的，灾难降临之前那些盲人呢？？？
