著者簡介

西濛•沙瑪（1945— ），英國曆史學傢，藝術史學傢，先後在劍橋大學、牛津大學、哈佛大學和哥倫比亞大學曆史係任教，並擔任BBC紀錄片解說，《紐約客》文藝評論員。編寫並主持過係列紀錄片《英國史》、《藝術的力量》、《美國的未來》，曾獲諸多嘉譽，包括1977年以《愛國者和解放者》獲沃夫森曆史奬，1987年以《財富的窘境：黃金時代荷蘭文明的一種解釋》獲“《紐約時報》年度最佳圖書”，1996年以《風景與記憶》獲W.H.史密斯文學奬,2006年以《亂世交匯：英國、奴隸與美國革命》（Rough Crossings）獲“全美書評人協會奬”。著作還包括《倫勃朗的眼睛》、《公民們，法國大革命編年史》、《死亡的確定性》等。
