Despite its uneven writing and rather limited scope, Xiran's debut opens the door to a world where women (mostly of older generations) have had their emotional landscape stripped bare because of sexual assaults, disastrous political upheavals and toxic masculinity which still seems the norm in modern China. Not a classic but important enough.

第一次給我機會使用appalling 這個詞的書，慘絕人寰，喪心病狂，書的後半部分竟然還有超越前半部分的悲劇高潮。理當讓人哭成傻逼的書，結果“震驚”本身對理智的拷問壓倒性滅絕瞭憤怒與悲傷的任何人倫情緒，完全無法代入同情的成分，連可憐她們這件事也做不到
