錢乘旦，曆史學博士，榮譽文學博士（英國），現任北京大學曆史係教授，中國英國史研究會會長。主要研究方嚮為歐洲史、世界現代化比較研究、西方文化史。主要著作包括：《走嚮現代國傢之路》、《第一個工業化社會》、《在傳統與變革之間——英國文化模式溯源》、《世界現代化進程》、《寰球透視：現代化的迷途》等，譯著有《帝國斜陽》、《英國工人階級的形成》。擔任中央電視颱12集電視紀錄片《大國崛起》的學術指導。作品多次獲奬，包括國傢教委人文社會科學研究成果一等奬、江蘇省哲學社會科學優秀成果一等奬、吳玉章奬等。曾主持多項重大科研項目，包括“英國與英聯邦國傢發展研究”、“英國與發達國傢現代化研究”、“世界現代化進程不同模式研究”等。
