For physics students interested in the mathematics they use, and for math students interested in seeing how some of the ideas of their discipline find realization in an applied setting. The presentation strikes a balance between formalism and application, between abstract and concrete. The interconnections among the various topics are clarified both by the use of vector spaces as a central unifying theme, recurring throughout the book, and by putting ideas into their historical context. Enough of the essential formalism is included to make the presentation self-contained.

內容卻是很豐富,但是我看的這一版裏有許多小錯誤。其次,傅裏葉分析中有許多內容其實沒細講,所以有些捉摸不透。至於有人說嚴謹,我覺得這本書一點都不嚴謹,大多數都隻是形式推導,有些根本沒有證明啊,如果真拿同樣話題的嚴謹的數學書來看,哪會這麼輕巧,不過形式推導對學物理來說就夠瞭。總的來說還是不錯的一本書,但是隻能作為一個概論來讀,欲知詳情,還得都相關的專業書籍。
