结尾挺精巧，drummer boy原来是主角的祖先。

故事背景是美国南北战争，A&J来到了战地医院帮助伤员。护士给了他们something to follow。 读着这本书还挺感人的，尤其是Jack在给African-American伤员倒水时候安慰他的话。 他们后来救助了对方的战士以及一个长得和Jack很像的叫John的drummer boy~感受到战场上的残酷和伤感后，兄妹俩很想念自己温暖的家。回到家后他们问爸爸家族里有没有曾经参加过Civil War的人，爸爸说曾曾曾曾祖父曾经是drummer boy 叫John！！！
