评分1970年的书，如今读起来依然是振聋发聩掷地有声。Freidson最好的地方是塑造了一个具有延伸性社会学概念系统来帮助我们理解医学职业，全书不仅环环相扣，而且相互辉映。从职业的特点入手，到医疗工作的组织，再到对疾病的社会建构，最后讨论职业主义与公众自由之间的关系。全书涵盖了基本上大多数医疗社会学的主题，如果要我推荐一本非教材类的医疗社会学的入门书，那就是这本了。
