企鹅出版的abridged 几百页读读真是轻松..原作虽然很长但是比起Gibbon还是很容易读的今年冬天了打算重新读一次 for further edification. Lord Macaulay的叙述非常taut对人对事的分析略显刻薄 but the dear old winnie gave us Marlborough!
