评分1950年的紐約底層社會，黑暗殘酷陰冷。連書中那麼一點點的溫暖也覺得很虛幻。書中兩個故事印象很深：描寫的變性人Georgette雖然遭受殘忍對待，仍然充滿希望和對愛情的幻想. 妓女Tralala是多嬌艷的花，最後卻被殘忍輪奸。 看這本書聽The Smiths最有感覺。想起那句"you could meet somebody who really loves you, so you go and you stand on your own and you leave on your own and you go home, and you cry and you want to die".
