"The Lost Continent" is an account of one man's rediscovery of America and his search for the perfect small town. In "Neither Here Nor There", the author journeys from Hammerfest, the northernmost town on the European continent, to Istanbul. In doing so he retraces his steps as a student 20 years before, visiting countries including Norway, France and Italy.

Bill Bryson 的文字里太多机智与幽默，总让我哑然失笑。虽然他的段子多到轻浮的地步。他这一次开车穿行美国大陆，去了不少很无聊的小镇，可这经历被他写的妙趣横生。看完了，我决不会想去跟随他的足迹访问这些小镇，但是我一定会再去读他的书。

通宵看的这本书，大半夜的在床上笑到打滚。Bill Bryson太擅长损人了，而且都那么一针见血。一面读一面佩服他怎么可以把话说的这么幽默讽刺，恨不得背下来用。可以感觉到，他虽然以移民英国为幸事，又看不惯美国人的种种无知陋习，还有些反商业化反庸俗化，但心底对那片土地还是...

在2天之内划过所有地点人名, 这个BILL无数次在加油站，无数次在café点炸薯条和炸鸡套餐...永远在说"我到了某某公路，某某城市，这里很picturesque, 这里poor 或rich,这里有某某纪念馆..." 作为travel literature也许只能在tedious之间找点妙语连珠了... 当然他确实也算是美国...
