i am surprised that most of the critique still makes sense today and is even incisive. Venturi tried very hard to argue that modern arch is no different from symbolism for the sake of advertising symbolism. However, a decorated shed is no better than a duck except for the less cost, and its value is questionable and is seemingly lacking some depth.

venturi真是我跨不过去的一道坎啊。从complexity到las vegas，总是有对材料的细致入微的观察和运用，和一个常人想不到的切入点。只是一直觉得venturi对现代主义的理解很拧巴，你批判mies建筑的隐性的不统一和不真诚，用在你自己的建筑上又何尝不是。

与 complexity and contradiction in architecture 一样，文丘里对于现代建筑的敌意似乎太大了。以我的眼光来看，现代建筑处在一个城市密度与尺度，人类活动范围与移动速度都极度扩张的环境之下，那么让每个建筑都成为一个symbol，肆意使用繁复而显眼的ornament，是否还合适呢？ 无论如何，这本书提出了很多哦现代建筑应当思考的问题，还是非常有价值的。只是文丘里对于现代建筑的评论是否准确，仍是一个问题。

终于在文丘里死后认真读了他的著作。满满的熟悉的东岸建筑系味道，连用词和句式都极易让人回忆起学校里reading的种种。前言写的很好，我读了好几遍，真希望我写起英文也能如此装逼。内容上就是old school，但此书扔具有极大的意义，工作之后就知道这种思考有多可贵，文丘里本人也说，此书聊的事情也就占据项目用时的2%。但建筑就是如此性价比不高的一件事情，最可贵的地方往往就在那2%。

被逼着一个周末读完 结果意料之外的有趣

拉斯维加斯的态度是多元，包容，混合价值，有序，无序，唯利是图，各取所需，这些词语似乎都是拉斯维加斯态度中的一部分。正因为它是一个移民城市，正因为它人口构成复杂，正因为它没有历史根基，所以这是一个包容的城市，在这个城市中没有价值权威（共产主义或是资本主义），...

文丘里批判的鸭子与被装饰的小屋 认为它们代表着现代主义应被诟病的地方 但问题是 现代主义的抽象形式是隐喻的 并不是纯粹的“鸭子” 而他推崇的拉斯维加斯的建筑又都是些什么呢？狮身人面像 金字塔 埃菲尔铁塔 文丘里推崇的恰恰的明显的“鸭子”啊  

看中文的时候各种看不懂，什么族谱啊徽谱啊，故意用看不懂的词也就算了，你翻的时候敢不敢统一一下。 还有这段，当时读的云里雾里 在20世纪60年代中期造访拉斯维加斯就如同在20世纪40年代后期造访罗马。20世纪40年代的年轻美国人只熟悉适应汽车的网格型城市和前一代建筑师的反...
