Jones, Honorary Fellow of the University of York This novel, based on George Eliot's own experiences of provincial life, is a masterpiece of ambiguity in which moral choice is subjected to the hypocrisy of the Victorian age. As the headstrong Maggie Tulliver grows into womanhood, the deep love which she has for her brother Tom turns into conflict, because she cannot reconcile his bourgeois standards with her own lively intelligence. Maggie is unable to adapt to her community or break free from it, and the result, on more than one level, is tragedy.

评分比Middlemarch好讀，但也整整花瞭兩周纔讀完。豐富密集飽滿的人物心理描寫讓人過癮極瞭！結局雖然讓人心痛，但也真的是最好的解脫瞭。
评分好久不看這種小說 絕對是當時的肥皂劇啊 特彆是和仇傢子弟墜入愛河這種橋段好狗血… 講Tom學拉丁確實有意思 後麵還強調他工作後發現學的東西完全沒用… 講Thomas a Kempis那段不知道Evans有沒有自己的感情。結束得有點太突然而刻意 雖然有伏筆。
