And the Band Played On is both a tribute to these heroic people and a stinging indictment of the institutions that failed the nation so badly.

著者簡介

RANDY SHILTS was one of the first journalists to recognize AIDS as an important national issue and, in the early 1980s, he began to report on AIDS full time for the San Francisco Chronicle, making him the only journalist to do so. He was also the author of The Mayor of Castro Street: The Life and Times of Harvey Milk and Conduct Unbecoming: Gay and Lesbians in the U.S. Military. Shilts died of AIDS-related complications in early 1994.

這個書名太好瞭

這本大概是對艾滋的曆史最全麵深入的解剖瞭。也隻有Randy SHILTS能寫齣這樣的作品—Access和Empathy！如果我是editor，我唯一的建議是600頁的內容其實是可以再濃縮的。（有Hiroshima做先例，任何non-fiction都應該有被濃縮在兩百頁以內依然是masterpiece的自信。）

大概是對美國80年代關於艾滋病發現和科研曆史最詳盡的一本書瞭，作者詳實的訪談讓人感動。難以想象最初為AIDS掙紮的人都經曆瞭什麼，在最黑暗的地方也有光，要將火炬傳遞下去。

值得一看除瞭實在是很長除瞭依照時間順序詳盡揭露瞭艾滋病前期發展的曆史還傳達齣瞭太多很有意思的和值得思考的現象 | 另外Robert Gallo真的是在一群killers中最賤的人瞭
