唐纳德•巴塞尔姆（Donald Barthelme，1931-1989）
是美国后现代主义小说家，代表作是《巴塞尔姆的白雪公主》、《死去的父亲》、《天堂》等中长篇小说 。他一生写了大量的短篇小说，并曾从事新闻记者、杂志编辑等工作，并曾在纽约城市大学任教。作品荣获古根海姆文学奖、美国国家图书奖、美国文学艺术院奖等。基于其在美国文坛重要地位，被赞誉为“今日众多年轻作家的文学教父”。
本书是巴塞尔姆的短篇小说集，书中汇集了众多具有代表性的短篇作品。其最重要的四部短篇作品集《回来吧，卡里加利博士》、《不可言说的实践，不自然的行为》、《城市生活》、《悲伤》均包括在内。
