張純如用一顆悲憫的同理心按曆史脈絡描寫美國華人的奮鬥與掙紮，成就與挫摺，悲歡與離閤。美國沒有我們想象中那麼自由。結尾提齣racial本質上應該是由自己定義的東西。很好看，看完陷入想去美國卻去不成的深深失落之中，希望有一天至少有能力去那兒旅遊。（140515-0621至105頁;150414-4.21用透析法每天讀40+花七天讀完瞭剩下的部分。【中大圖書館】）
