最后几章我真是看得死去活来。当Gore Vidal不尝试用他的辛辣刻薄来掩盖伤痛的时候，文章就极为感人。对几次离别的描写非常动人：和亲哥的，和堂哥的，和Helena的，和阿波罗神庙的，还有那种对宫廷场景墓穴一般的刻画。尤利安到底还是四世纪的孩子，这一点从始至终都让我心碎。（PS. 我有点怀疑开头对那种紧张的告密气氛的描写是在映射麦卡锡……but who knows.
