书本身三星，私心多给一星。历史没有终结，或至少未以福山想象的方式终结，而他回答：欲知其终必先知其始，人本意义上的观念历史终结不等于政治权力的停止和秩序的终极形态。平心而论此书并不出色，空有宏大而粗糙过分（就算只是卖座书也该有底线）：前后章节的论证经常拼不到一块去（关于文化、思维和意识形态的论述尤其如此，一会显得不太重要一会又强调政治秩序合法性必须植根于观念），各区域研究也被刻意简化（中国和东欧部分尤欠深究），国家重要性也属烂梗（所谓带回国家从东亚发展型国家时代就开始了）。但私心赞赏福山的努力：亨廷顿、马尔萨斯似乎都快被遗忘，但他们所提命题的长长阴影似乎又无处不在；大书和宏观比较传统也有被废弃的迹象，越来越精细严密的学术研究却似乎缺乏公共对话和指引能力。福山在这条缺少同行者的路上又走出了一段。

非常精彩，重新燃起了自13年的民主发展公开课以来对政治科学的热情。主要篇幅在用历史示例来阐述福山理论框架的三大基本元素，国家，法治和political accountability (因为视角很高，可读性强所以本部分为其畅销书属性增色不少），而后面的总论章节则是其理论框架精炼阐述，最后福山抛出了三个还在进行时的话题，其结果将作为对他理论的检验（抑或修正）：中国，Liberal democracies和美国。在18年回望他在11年提出的问题，不得不说他的理论确实把握到了一些关键的症结，世界还在发展，这三个课题的答案只能靠时间来回答了。
