一本游记式的个人回忆录，文笔细腻，深入浅出，对前往缅甸旅行的人来说，除了奥威尔和艾玛·拉金，这本书也不失为入门的好选择（他的The Making of Modern Burma也非常不错，但后者学术意味更重一些）。Thant Myint U观察和思考的内容正在被近年来中印缅三角关系印证，而他在10多年前关注的很多东西也在不断实现，例如他目前正运营的Yangon Heritage Trust，主要推动的就是殖民建筑保育。从立场上说，在缅甸各界对中资非常警惕的氛围下，他对中缅关系是偏乐观的，他更多强调缅甸应该学会如何把握平衡，而非片面妖魔化中资。从他最近在AAS年会上做了Keynote Speech可以明显感觉到，他最关注的依然是民生和社会底层保障。
