According to Aristotle, the dactylic hexameter, of which both the Iliad and Odyssey are composed, is the most majestic form of Greek. It forced epic poets to ingenuous constructions, creating a language that combined archaisms and innovations, traditional and dialectical characteristics, morphological duplicates, and phonetic variants. This volume studies the systematic use of sigmatic nominative themes, starting with the words and their different case forms, and from there proceeds to the construction of syntagms and the organization of the epic phrase.
