Winter, the Unwelcome Visitor is a book-length work of poetry divided into a five section poetic cycle. "South Africana: On The Way" puns on the word "Africana," used to describe the objects collected by European colonizers it also stands as a symbol of the dubious history and theft of South African objects and culture. "Post-Colony: Do Not Love Freedom" focuses on contemporary postcolonial issues in Canada and abroad. "Puzzletry" stands as the anchoring point of the work. Four short poems describe key elements of the work as a whole, inviting the reader to guess at the thematic words which characterize the text. "Being Brave" moves from a feminist examination of women's bodies in a colonizing context to the resistance-rhetoric found in the glossa inspired by Gwendolyn Brooks. "The Lover" explores the myriad of relationships that characterize sexual exploration.
