Julie couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her husband, Sean, was missing in Korea, and she had to hear the news from Sean's mother. They had been married by a minister four years ago, but the state of California did not recognize marriages between a colored girl and a white boy. So, Julie was not officially his wife and could receive no information directly, even though he was the father of her three-year-old son. Julie doesn't know if she'll ever see her husband again.
