This book traces the history of one of the most powerful and influential railroads in America's History - a railroad called 'a nation unto itself' by fortune magazine. Rail historian Mike Schaefer examines this mighty railroads into a twentieth-century transport giant. Both colour and black-and-white photographs and period ads illustrate the railroad's many facets, including both it's passenger and freight operations, as well as its motive power through the decades. There is an epilogue that details the legacy left by the Pennsy after its 1968 merger.
